Lack of Access and Support

The struggle that many Asian American families face is the lack of support systems and understanding. This makes it challenging to talk about their situations and can take a toll on one's mental health. Many Asian Americans are also immigrants, and language barriers are another component of the tough situation.

In the article, Jacqueline Fan said: “When we talk about language access, it’s not just having a translator. It’s about ensuring the families can understand and use the information they receive. I know the state has improved and implemented mandatory language translation interpretation requirements, but that doesn’t mean the quality is necessarily there.” Not only is it difficult with the language barrier, but also obtaining information and services is just as challenging. There is also a lack of knowledge about how the American system works or when people need help.
